Each year, World Aids Day is observed on December 1st. This day is dedicated to raising awareness on the Aids epidemic caused by the spread of the HIV virus. Every 9.5 minutes someone in the United States alone is infected with HIV. The sad part is that 1 in 4 new HIV cases is among the ages of 13-24, what's even scarier is that most of them are unaware that they even contracted the virus. By practicing safe sex as well as getting tested, we can do something to prevent the spread of this virus that has already claimed the lives of millions all over the world. Whether you are sexually active or abstaining from sexual intercourse, protecting yourself is a lot better than a positive test result.   Although there are people in the world living with the HIV virus, others do lose their fight against AIDS, so please always protect yourself, not only against HIV/ AIDS, but also against other sexually transmitted diseases. T he AIDS epidemic claimed an estimated 2 million lives in 2007,   of which about 270,000 were children. It is one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history..  The red ribbon is the global symbol for solidarity with HIV- positive people and those living with AIDS.  Similar to the pink ribbon for Breast Cancer Awareness..  Practicing safe sex is a great way to protect yourself from contracting the virus.. As well as, getting yourself tested.. Whether you decide on safe sex or no sex, this is better than a positive test result.. Please remember that although there are people out there living with the HIV/ AIDS, some people do lose their fight against AIDS.. Always Protect yourself..
